SHUKOVA: North Macedonia hosts UNECE regional workshops on waste, climate change and disaster risk management

Minister Shukova opened the first workshop dedicated to waste, “Policies and practices based on the Environmental Performance Review of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)”, which will be held today and tomorrow in Skopje. After the first, two more will follow in October, on the topics of climate change and disaster risk management.3

Due to the proactive role of the Republic of North Macedonia in the Environmental Policy Committee and various UNECE activities in this area and the successfully implemented Environmental Performance Review (EPR), three so far, UNECE chose our country to host the workshops.2

The series of workshops attended by representatives of countries from Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus is realized with the help of the German Environment Agency through UNECE Geneva.4

The purpose of these workshops is to exchange experiences at the regional level to review environmental conditions, the level of implementation of the recommendations from the EPRs, and to provide recommendations and guidelines for future activities. The workshops will also improve the understanding of available tools and instruments to support and implement the Sustainable Development Goals in the environment.8
